Step 1: Save Your Broken Pot

Don’t throw away that broken pot! You can turn it into a whimsical work of living art.

Save your broken clay pots and turn all you find into a charming fairy garden.

Step 2: Clean the Pot

Remove the old soil and scrub it clean.

Step 3: Let It Dry

Leave it to dry out thoroughly.

You’ll want your pot to be thoroughly dry before you start turning it into a fairy garden.

Step 4: Break Up One of the Larger Pot Shards

Use a hammer to break one or two (or more) of the larger pieces into smaller pieces. It will depend on the size of your clay pot and how it is broken.

If a large piece broke off your pot, smash it up into smaller pieces. You can use these to decorate the fairy garden!

Step 5: Fill the Pot With Soil

Fill the remaining pot with fresh, clean potting soil.

Refill the main piece of the broken pot with nice, fresh soil.

Step 6: Prepare Your Plants

Get your plants ready to plant. I used succulents.

Prep the plants you want to put in the fairy garden. Succulents are a good choice!

I also used blue lobelia

Step 7: Arrange Plants and Shards

Arrange the plants and pieces of the broken clay pot.

I used a large broken piece here to create a decorative wall in the garden.

Step 8: Add Stair Steps

Broken pieces of the pot can be magically transformed into fairy steps!

Don’t forget to add stair steps.

Step 9: Add Fairies

Now magical beings can climb up to live in your fairy garden.

Some fairy and gnome figurines turn the garden into a whimsical habitat.
